Tetsuhiro Hokama Sensei was born in Taiwan in 1944 and lived there until he was 6 years old. He is the Chairman and Soke of the Goju-ryu Kenshikai Dojo Headquarters. One of Hokama Sensei’s Karate instruction videos has been played on YouTube more than 8 million times. There are many well-known martial artists from around the world, including Steven Seagal, who have come to Okinawa to meet Hokama Sensei. Hokama Sensei learned karate from his grandfather, Tokuyama Moriken, and went on to learn Goju-ryu from Higa Seiko sensei, Kobudo from Shinpo Matayoshi sensei and Masakazu Kinjo sensei, and the art of Shinto Tenshin-ryu from Kaminaga Shigemi sensei. After that, Hokama Sensei went to America and then to Mindanao University where he obtained a Ph.D. in Physical Education (Budo). Hokama Sensei regularly goes abroad to teach and spread Karate. He was a leading Okinawan master of Goju-ryu karate. He was a senior post-war student of Chōjun Miyagi, founder of the Goju-ryu style.
